WHAT IS Reiki USED TO TREAT?

Reiki is a great tool for stress reduction and relaxation. Many people use Reiki for wellness, not just to assist in healing. Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it may assist the body in creating an environment that may facilitate healing. Reiki is a great tool to use in complement to traditional medicine and is practiced in many hospitals and medical care settings.

Reiki practitioners understand that an illness is an expression of some part of the body/mind that does not know how to be well. Reiki works first on a mental and emotional level, as it works to achieve long-term improvement by helping people address, heal and release issues that lead to the problem. Depending upon the severity and duration of the problem a physical change may or may not occur. Sometimes all that can be achieved is helping a client to accept and live with a major illness – improving someone’s quality of life and comfort.

Many times a client will learn to treat themselves after having Reiki treatments by taking a Reiki I course. This can be very beneficial and can sometimes provide then umber of treatments that are recommended for a serious condition when cost would prohibit it otherwise.

My Training

My training has been a personal journey, not only learning Reiki, but in learning myself.  That now seems only natural due to the profound impact Reiki can have, not only on the person who receives Reiki but upon the practitioner.

When I first took a Reiki Class I was amazed, the very intensity was awesome and I know that even after completing my second level I wanted more.  For that reason I went to New Hampshire to retake levels 1 and 2 and an additional advanced course from the oldest living Reiki Master in the United States - John Harvey Gray. learnreiki.org

Because of this my lineage is very closely linked to Dr. Usui, even though we will probably never know Reiki exactly as he taught it.  Reiki is not stagnat, it is alive an growing I believe that each practitioner adjust what they learned to some degree.

I have taken Reiki courses from several Reiki Masters and will continue to retake courses.  I find that each Master gives me something important that I can use and pass on.

In June of 2010 I was fortunate enough to travel to Glastonbury England to complete my Master's in Karuna Reiki.  While maintaining the basics of Usui Reiki it appears to work at a higher level and to address healing in a completely different way.  Used together they work to promote healing at a much higher level.  I am proud to be able to offer this additional Reiki Form.

                 The Reiki Precepts

The Reiki Precepts or codes of practice (gokai) were

written by its founder, Mikao Usui, and form its

foundation as a spiritual path.

You will find several variations and translations of

the Reiki Precepts but the one that really

resonates with me goes like this:

Just for today I will let go of anger.

Just for today I will let go of worry.

Today I will count my many blessings.

Today I will do my work honestly.

Today I will be kind to every living thing."

In the Japanese texts from which the Reiki Precepts were translated, they are preceded by the introduction:

"The secret of inviting happiness through many blessings, the spiritual medicine for all illness."

Following that introduction we are instructed to:

"Do gassho every morning and evening, keep in your mind and recite."

(Gassho means "two hands coming together" as one would do in the prayer position or the Namaste greeting).

The two closing lines acknowledge the benefits that we can expect to achieve and give the name of the system and its founder:

"Improve your mind and body

Usui Reiki Ryoho, the founder Mikao Usui."
